In preparation for the second session:

  • Complete the VoiceThread activity (if still not completed).
  • Browse the Personal Learning Network site.
  • In your own copy of the Google Doc you started during Session 1 (“[Your name] – Online Course Outline”), complete the sections “General Information,” “Course Goals and Learning Objectives,” and “Assessment” to the extent you can at this point. This document serves as a blueprint for your course, and you will be adding content to different sections of the document as we move through our sessions. As we move forward, the series staff will monitor your Google Site to look at your document as it evolves and to leave comments.

Laulima

  • Adding external web content to Laulima (embedding and linking).
  • Editing tools in Laulima (for example, adding a Gradebook).

Screen Capture

  • Options for making a screen capture, annotating images (Snipping Tool, Skitch), and editing images (Pixlr).
  • In your Laulima course, take a screenshot of your Laulima homepage and annotate the screenshot (e.g., by using Skitch). Next, in your Google site, create a new page (e.g., titled “Screenshot”) and insert the annotated screenshot (see this step-by-step tutorial).

Part 2: Video and Audio

Hands-on activities for Part 2:

  • Record a short (1-2 minute) video of yourself with a webcam using QuickTime Player (Mac), Movie Maker (Windows), or one of these methods. In the video, give an overview of the course you are developing, suitable for students to view the first time they enter the course.
  • Create a non-UH (regular) Gmail account (if you don’t have one) and log in.
  • Upload your video to your non-UH YouTube (Google) account.
  • Create a new page on your Google Site and embed the YouTube video.

In preparation for our next session (homework for Session 3):

  • Review the Leeward CC English 100 Course (Google Site) focusing on Categories 1, 2, 3, and 5 only. To review this course, click here.
  • In your own copy of the Google Doc you started during Session 1 (“[Your name] – Online Course Outline”), complete the “Course Content” section. Make sure you have already completed the previously assigned sections: “General Information,”  “Course Goals and Learning Objectives,” and “Assessment.”
