FACULTY-ORIENTATION

Faculty Orientation to Online Learning is a professional development series offered to the faculty and graduate students from the College of Languages, Linguistics, and Literature at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. This series aims at introducing the participants to the basic principles and concepts of online teaching and learning. Instructors who complete the orientation will gain basic familiarity with theoretical and practical aspects of designing an online course, starting from either the adaptation of a traditional course or the creation of an entirely new one, as well as with the resources available to them at UH. They will also be able to earn digital badges that recognize the successful completion of the series.

The series covers three basic skill areas–Content Development, Interaction, and Technology,–and progresses through six face-to-face sessions supplemented with online content and interaction. Each of these sessions provides guided, hands-on practice and consultation opportunities to develop a fully online course. Instructors who need special accommodations to participate in or complete the orientation should contact the CLT.

Any instructor–including faculty and graduate students–in the College of Languages, Linguistics, and Literature can take the series. Instructors who are planning to teach an online course for the first time or who have not taught online in the last two years are required by the College of LLL to either (a) submit to the CLT a fully developed online course for review three weeks before registration for the course opens, or (b) successfully complete the Faculty Orientation to Online Learning and earn a badge representing basic knowledge and skill sets for online course design and teaching before registration for their online course opens.

This series meets Thursdays from 2.30p – 4p OR Fridays 10 – 11.30 in 155B Moore Hall.
Dates: Thursday sessions: 8/23, 9/6, 9/20, 10/4, 10/18, 11/1  OR  Friday sessions: 8/24, 9/7, 9/21, 10/5, 10/19, 11/2.

Registration is required for participating in this event and is on a first-come, first-served basis.
