From 2005 to 2009, The American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) OPI/ILR Workshops were held in the Center for Language & Technology then known as the Language Learning Center. Training was done for speakers of the following languages: Chinese (Mandarin), Korean, Tagalog, Ilokano, Cebuano, Thai, Lao, Khmer, Vietnamese, Kurdish-Sorani, Persian Farsi, Arabic, Samoan, Slovak, Marshallese.   In addition workshops for two other projects, Diagnostics Helps and CCT, were held involving the following languages: Persian Farsi, Arabic, Korean, Chinese, Chavacano, Tausug and Cebuano. Several participants were involved in both the OPI training and the Diagnostics Helps and CCT projects. Participants included UH Faculty, local residents and people flown in from outside Hawaii by ACTFL. Terry Ramos also invited the ACTFL trainer, Robert Vicars, to come and lead an OPI training workshop for Tagalog teachers independent of these ACTFL workshops.
